
The fundamental source of data center community noise complaints is air movement: the high-speed fans required to push large volumes of air through server racks and exhaust heat to the exterior. These fans are noisy by physics — the relationship between airspeed and noise means fan noise scales steeply with rotational speed. The solution is not to make the fans quieter — it is to eliminate the need for high-speed fans entirely. Liquid and immersion cooling do exactly that.
